Care for flower arrangements set in floral foam

Have you ever received or taken home a floral arrangement set in foam only to see it wilt within a day or two ? Did you ever wonder why?

Today I want to share some simple tips with you to keep that beauty going so you can enjoy it so much longer.

The key to increasing the life span of your floral arrangement simply comes down to a few simple elements. Flowers need food, water and proper temperature to survive - just like humans.

Here are some simple ways to ensure that your flowers set in foam are getting what they need.
  1. Water: The foam is the vessel that holds the water your flowers are drinking. Therefore, it needs to stay wet, just as a vase needs water in it. When you receive the arrangement, check the water level by putting a finger inside the container holding the foam. There should be water around the foam to keep it moist. If it is getting low, add water. Repeat daily or as needed.
  2. Food: Your arrangement probably came with a packet of flower food. Mix some into your water before pouring it into your arrangement to keep the flowers fed.
  3. Temperature: Keep your arrangement out of the direct sun to avoid premature wilting. If you cannot do this in the day, you can always move it to a cooler spot overnight to increase the longevity. Just like humans , extreme heat or cold affects flowers.

Each flower is unique and some flowers in your arrangements may last longer than others. Some flowers don’t change in appearance as they dry up while others may no longer look attractive.

Design tip:

To keep your arrangement looking great , use your creative flair to replace the early wilting flowers with a decor element instead. This is particularly easy to do around holiday times, where decorative picks or ornaments can be placed into an open spot in an arrangement.

So next time you receive a beautiful arrangement set in foam, try these tips. Don’t forget - it all boils down to three basic elements: water, food and proper temperature.
