Spring sentiments

Spring is such a great time! I love watching the world of nature re-awaken after a long sleepy winter.

I think spring is especially delightful for us as Canadians. It signifies sweet victory over the long, cruel battle with winter. We have once again made it through the elements of ice, snow , sleet and chilling nights.

We start awakening to the sounds of the birds chirping eagerly.. reminding us that a beautiful day awaits us. The grass starts to regain its colour , trees start to blossom and the very first buds from spring bulbs start to poke themselves out of the ground- surprising us with a delightfully unexpected pop of colour.

I think this is the reason that I love spring flowers.. they reawaken my senses with new smells and colours long forgotten during the bitterness of winter. They are like old friends we suddenly come across on a stroll, bringing instant joy and laughter to us.

Tulips, daffodils, crocuses followed by budding lilac trees all lighten my spirit and combine to make up the delightful smell of spring. A smell that resides deep in my memory from childhood as I recall those carefree bike rides and ventures in the park.

As I breath in the fresh air, I look forward to all the new growth and new beginnings that await. Spring brings a renewed sense of hope and freedom as we shed our winter pandemic layers and step back out into the world.
Along with the budding flowers, I look forward to the long awaited sound of children playing outside and the sight of people strolling along or eating at an outside cafe.
