TLC- Tender Love for Cut flowers

Today we go back to the basics and look at how to care for cut flowers. Whether they are freshly cut from your garden or arrive to you in a vase, the same principles apply. Everybody loves the way fresh cut flowers look and smell so let’s look at how we can extend that pleasure through some TLC :
  • Start by filling a clean vase with fresh water and adding flower food to the water.

  • Give your stems a fresh cut on an angle to help them drink better

  • Remove any leaves from the stem that would fall below the waterline in your vase (as they will decay in the water and cause bacteria to build up) then place them in the water.

  • Simply repeat the above steps every couple of days.

  • Flowers you receive that are already arranged in a vase require the exact same care..starting one or two days after they have arrived. Murky water, or debris in the water, indicate that it’s time for a refresh. (If you look carefully at the photo above, you can see some debris staring to collect in the water...telling us it’s time to freshen it up)

Reminder: Avoid keeping your cut flowers out of water or in extremely high temperatures/direct sun for too long. Generally speaking, flowers last longer in a slightly cool environment.

It only takes a few minutes every couple of days to deliver this TLC (Tender Love to Cut flowers😜). Try it out! Not only will you get to experience the repeated pleasure of playing with flowers as you recreate your arrangement along the way, but you’re rewards may double, or even triple, in terms of how long you get to enjoy the beauty. Like any relationship you want to see last..a little love goes a long way!

Please feel free to share any of your personal tips/tricks on caring for your flowers below so we can continue to build on our collective experiential knowledge. After all, living is learning. Or, upload your favorite vase photo for all of us to enjoy! Here are a few of mine.
